From the moment your pregnancy test result turns positive, it’s important to set an appointment with your doctor right away and make sure to monitor the baby week by week. This way, you can ensure the safety of your baby and yourself as well.

Prenatal check-up that started out early on and got on a normal schedule during the entire course of the pregnancy can help you feel a lot better and will reduce the chance of you giving birth to an unhealthy baby.

More or less, you’ll not have any critical conditions and your pregnancy will be just fine but early prenatal attention is essential both for first time moms and those that have had previous pregnancy that had been healthy. Keep in mind that each pregnancy differs from the others.

  1. You may want to visit your doctor at the earliest opportunity possible. The ideal time is when you’re just starting to plan your pregnancy so you can have a head start on how exactly you should take care of yourself as well as the health of your unborn baby.
  2. If it’s an unplanned pregnancy, visit your doctor immediately as soon as you are convinced that you’re pregnant.
  3. Plan your doctor appointments since your doctor checkups may differ depending on your private physician’s procedures as well as whether you have high-risk pregnancy.
  4. During your initial visit, expect a check on you and your husband’s medical background and exact date of your last menstrual period to determine when the baby will be born. Your doctor will also check your blood pressure, urine for sugar levels, red and white blood cells, protein, weight, and any bacterial infection.
  5. During later checkups on your pregnancy, your doctor will monitor your weight, blood pressure, baby’s heartbeat, and screening for diabetes between your 24th and 28th week. Iron deficiency evaluation is done during the 26th week of pregnancy as well as monitoring the size of your womb and the measurement and description of your uterus.
  6. Further blood screening is also done to screen for immunity disorders such as rubella or rh blood incompatibility.
  7. Pap smear to check for cervical cancer and extensive physical and internal pelvic test to ensure that your body is all set.

It’s always easier to deal with serious health issues early in your pregnancy and your doctor can prescribe medicines and precautionary measures to keep the baby healthy. Getting regular prenatal checkups and tests early on is the most effective way to find out if there’s going to be any difficulties in your pregnancy as you can monitor the fetal development week by week.
