0

A big part of toddler development is learning. This is when toddlers learn their basics that will serve as the foundation of their skills. Teaching a toddler can be quite a challenge due to their behavior. But as long as you use the proper of way of teaching them, it can be fun.

Importance of nursery rhymes

Nursery rhymes don’t really make much sense. If a parent goes through line by line of most Mother Goose rhymes they don’t mean anything. Some of these words are even strung together just to make them rhyme, no matter how silly it sounds. Yet, humpty dumpty is a big hit for a toddler. These nursery rhymes are written for children even though they don’t make much sense to adults.

They say that when a child laughs more they learn more. These nursery rhymes sound fun and engaging to a toddler. Apart from its entertainment value, nursery rhymes can be effective tools in laying the foundation for your toddler’s language development. Toddlers don’t really pay attention to the rhymes and they wouldn’t ponder on their meaning either. Their efficiency lies on their melody and rhythm. Similar sounds are organized in a way that is uncommon in everyday speech. During repetition, a toddler will be introduced to units of sounds. These are called phonemes which make up words.  It will help your toddler to think through words by using these sounds. Their sequence is important in helping your children learn how to spell and read.

Encourage the love for books

Nursery rhymes are perfect stories for toddlers. They encourage listening to stories from beginning to the end by using narratives. It will encourage them to love books which are helpful in learning to read and later on studying. They are short, so a toddler doesn’t have to sit still for a long time. Children can also relate to them emotionally. It will introduce them to fearsome things such as falling down or getting lost without making it frightening. Humpty dumpty and Jack and Jill end pretty badly but don’t disturb children. Some of them can also be reassuring.  Parents can make alternate endings to encourage imagination and creativity. They can also use this opportunity to bond with their toddler.

Sometimes it’s the simple things that make the big difference. Nursery rhymes are little ditties that can make a difference for toddler development. After all, you have to start them young to boost your child’s development.
