Reading with a Baby

As we know, that reading is good. And to start cultivating that habit since babyhood is even better. When I was pregnant, I would often read to Allysa. My colleague mentioned once that her daughter was able to read the “Three Little Pigs” when she turned 2. Secret? Mommy started since womb-time and it went on to be a favorite nightly before bedtime read.

So reading has become a daily activity and I even dreamed of having a library full of children’s books. Who doesn’t like books with textures, pop-ups, sounds and beautiful illustrations? And not to forget, those witty and funny plots too. I am a huge fan of children’s storybooks too.

I believe there are no rules to reading; even to a baby. You can grab any book or magazine and read to a baby. I do read aloud to Allysa when I read too. And as they grow a little older and mobile, you can probably go for board or cloth books which they can handle themselves. Magazines wouldn’t be ideal unless you decide paper for lunch or dinner. Soft back ones are also highly recommended till older age.

Currently at 11 mths, Allysa loves texture and peek-a-boo books.

She loves her nightly read of “The Going To Bed Book” by Sandra Boynton. Definitely one of my favorite children’s author.

And remember not to forget the chinese ones too. So what are your kids’ favourite reads?
