Twirling Ornaments

These fun decorations work nicely for Christmas tree ornaments or room decorations. It is easiest to work with simple shapes but you can make intricate designs like butterflies also. They just take a lot more time to cut out and string together. I find the simple shapes more fun to work with. You can create so much with glitter, sequins and paint.

Twirling OrnamentsTwirling OrnamentsWhat you need:

  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Fishing line
  • Paint
  • Glitter
  • Sequins or decorations

What to do:

  1. Cut out a large shape and cut out the inside of it leaving enough space for decoration.
  2. Cut out the same shape but smaller to fit inside the large shape and also this one can be cut out inside for another insert if you want.
  3. If using a third insert, cut it to fit inside.
  4. Paint the cardboard with a mixture of white glue and paint.
  5. Sprinkle on your glitter.
  6. Add decoration to the shape.
  7. Let the shapes dry a bit then do the other side.
  8. Once they are dry, string them by running the fishing line through the corrugation folds.
  9. It is easiest if you string the inner most piece first then work your way out.
  10. You should use separate string for each piece so that they will rotate individually.
  11. Tie the strings together at the top. To secure the knot you can braid the strings all together.
  12. Hang up and watch them twirl.
