Inside Your Body

Your baby is now the size of an avocado (11.5cm) and weighs about 100g.  However, each baby will grow at his/her own pace and babies’ weight can vary greatly from now on.  So don’t be alarmed if your baby is much bigger or smaller than the average weight and size given here.   Your baby’s head is becoming more erect and his/her neck is becoming more extended from the head or body. His/her toenails are being formed and heart is pumping at least 25 quarts of blood to the body each day.  However, the baby still depends on your placenta for nutrition and nourishment.  Your baby’s nervous system is functioning and his/her brain is communicating with the muscles.

Your Sign And Symptoms

So far, you have only felt the consequences of bearing the baby, but going forward you will be able to feel the baby himself/herself inside you.  It must be wonderful to feel your baby making his/her presence felt as his/her little gymnastics can now be noticed.  Your baby can be full of energy and so will you, as your fatigue subsides.  However, if you couldn’t feel anything as yet, don’t get worried, as you may not realize the movement especially if it is your first pregnancy.  Your baby’s movement will be very faint and may feel more like a fluttering sensation. However, as the pregnancy progresses, it will become much easier to notice and feel the movement.

What Tests To Expect

In addition to your routine tests at each of your gynaecologist’s visits, you may be doing a quad or triple screening if you haven’t yet done so or amniocentesis if you have chosen to do this test and has not yet done so.
