Differences in Child Upbringing Based on Religious Beliefs of Parent

The Philippines is host to diverse religious beliefs that take a huge role in how a parent fosters mores and values to the child. Every single parent wishes to nurture the child in such a way that the child grows into morally sound adult, and living life with the same faith and ideals.

Child upbringing by Christian parent

To Christian parents, kids are all divine gifts from God. They are a vessel through which God delivers care and love for every child. Their Christian faith enables them to become responsible parents by bringing the children closer to God as they grow.  Thus, it is common to see parents, kids, and other family members to be active members of their Church. Even while young, the kids are already actively participating in religious programs and activities. The major objective of every single parent of Christian faith is to make sure that the child grows into a mature individual practicing the same Christian beliefs, deciding based on Christian mores and values, and dedicating life and endeavors for the glory of God.

Child upbringing by Catholic parent

Catholicism is described distinctively from Christianity since it is the predominant religion in the Philippines. For Catholic parents, kids are trained to follow Catholic traditions such as attending the Eucharistic Celebrations every Sunday, Misa de Gallo, Visita Iglesia during Holy Week, Marian devotion, procession during feast days of patron saints, and so on. Catholic parents, kids, and the rest of the family members pray together as a family unit for their belief that doing so unites and strengthens them in braving the storms and challenges of life. Every single parent dreams that the child grows and values Catholic faith above all else. Thus, many Catholic parents favor parochial or Catholic schools so that the child learns not just academically but also spiritually.

Child upbringing by Muslim parent

One of the most striking features of Muslim families is their prayerful way of life. Every single parent urges children to act, speak, and dress conservatively. Thus, young children are seen wearing tunic and girls wearing additional veil to cover their hair. To Muslim parents, kids should be trained early in life to practice Muslim traditions and observing the Five Pillars of Islam, such as Salah (praying five times a day).

Every single parent, no matter what religious affiliation he or she belongs, hopes that the child shall grow with utmost reverence and deep love for God. Thus, it is rare to find a Filipino family that live life outside their faith. Thus, Filipino parent is often heeded since their upbringing is deeply rooted to their religious faith.
