New Moms and Dads Pressured to be Perfect

In a recent study conducted about an individual’s adaptation in a parenting life, it was known that newly identified mothers and fathers are having a more difficult time on adjusting and adapting to their new roles as parents especially when they consider the society’s expectation for them to be perfect ones.

The study used 182 newly coupled parents who have just entered their new responsibilities in the years of 2008 to 2010. The researchers found out that mothers are having a downgrading level of self-reliance and the fathers are experiencing strains because they are anxious on what will others say on their parenting skills and techniques. Nevertheless, self-inflicting stresses on being perfect parents are more favorable to the parents especially for the paternal ones.

Meghan Lee, the author of the study who is a graduate student majoring in human development and family science at Ohio University even noted that the external tension or the society’s expectation of making themselves a perfect parent seriously gives a hurtful adaptation for the mothers and the fathers especially if they are new to their roles; but if you accept these strains for themselves, they may claim some benefits at a sooner time. But the idea of the outside pressure is still not generally good.

It was also noted by the author of the study that the idea of being a perfect father and a perfect mother for a child can still be changed as the time passes by since she had considered that the parent-respondents of the study were evaluated three months after their child was born.
