Christmas in the hospital Managing your birth period during holidays

Just the thought that you’re nearing your time of birth is bound to prompt you to launch into a series of daydreams about the arrival of your baby. That’s perfectly understandable, of course, taking into consideration that you’ve spent months during pregnancy preparing for the newest member of your family. But what if your birth period coincides with a major holiday like Christmas? Giving birth is already difficult enough as it is; if you find yourself in the bouts of labor while the rest of the world is animatedly celebrating, it’s going to be even harder for you. While you may not consider the prospect of a Christmas birth as an ideal situation for you, it is still possible to make the most of the holidays even when you have to spend it cooped inside the hospital. Remember that next year this time around, you’ll have your precious little darling to celebrate it with, and your Christmas will be even more memorable. For the meantime, below are a few things to help you deal with your birth period during holidays:

Make use of the Internet

If you’re aware that you’re due to give birth during the busy Christmas season – from the middle of December until the middle of January – it’s highly recommended that you limit your outings and stay at home if you can. Of course there’s a lot of shopping to do, but you can just log in the Internet for that. That way you’ll be able to avoid the long lines and busy crowds.

Prepare in advance

It’s a given that you’re going to pack your bag full of necessities and an adequate supply of baby things to last during the hospital stay. But if your birth period is anytime on the day right before, during, or after Christmas, you might also want to include a little holiday trinket to liven up your room. It can be a stocking to hang at the door, or maybe a portable folding Christmas tree. Giving birth in the hospital doesn’t mean you have to abandon the Christmas spirit.

Celebrate another day

If you’re in the hospital at Christmas because you’ve just given birth, you might want to suggest to your family to move your holiday celebrations on a later date. It’ll give you a bit of time to rest, and by then you’ll be at the comfort of your home again.

A birth period at the onset of the busy holiday season can be a bit stressful, but if you take things at a relatively slow pace, you’ll be able to prioritize what’s most important to you right now: your baby.
