Soap Box Stationery Accessory

This is another simple and fun activity to get the creative juices flowing and then have something that is useful or can be a great gift. It’s a soap box made into a pencil sharpener holder with a magnet inside so that you can keep your scissors and safety clips right at hand.

What you need:

A pencil sharpener (inexpensive rectangular one from stationary shop or a left over one from school)

A soap box or just about any small box

A magnet

Tape

Glue

Newspaper

Steadtler Poster Paints

What to do:

1. Open up the box so that you can lay it flat. Open it so that the inside of the box faces up.

2. Pick the spot to put the sharpener trace the opening.

3. Cut it out a little smaller then the sharpener itself.

4. Tape it onto the box so that from the opposite side, you can put pencil right into the sharpener.

5. Tape the magnet onto the spot you want it to be.

6. Now fold the box closed again. If the back of the sharpener does not touch the back of the box, put some waded up newspaper there so that it stays in place.

7. Tape the box securely closed except one side so that you can empty out the pencil shavings.

8. Since the boxes have a waxy surface, they don’t paint easily so cover the box with glue and then strips of newspaper.

9. As you add strips of newspaper, make sure that the surface is completely covered with a thin layer of glue. Using a paint brush for this minimizes the mess.

10. Leave it to dry.

11. Once dry, you can paint it with Staedtler paints to match what ever you like.
