Tie Dye with Markers

0

Don’t worry about the big dye mess or coloured fingers. All you need is the Staedtler permanent markers a t-shirt, rubbing alcohol and a few supplies. Even the little ones can get in on the tie dye action.

What you need:
• Pre-washed white t-shirt
• Staedtler Permanent Markers any colours you like
• Plastic Cup or plastic bowl
• Rubbing Alcohol (70% from the pharmacy)
• Medicine dropper or teaspoon
• Rubber Band big enough to fit over cup or bowl lip

What to do:
1. Put some newspaper down on the area you want to work in.
2. Lay the t-shirt out and put the cup inside where you want to make the design.
3. Pull the t-shirt over the cup and put the rubber band on the top so that it doesn’t move around.
4. Pick the colour of marker you want to use and let the colour soak from the marker tip to the t-shirt. You can move the marker around a bit making smaller dots to connect.
5. Now using the dropper or the spoon, drip some rubbing alcohol onto the marked dots. This should be done slowly drop by drop letting the alcohol spread the ink.
6. The colour will keep spreading so don’t worry and pour too much alcohol.
7. Let it dry and then move the cup to repeat the steps in another spot on the shirt.

You can vary your design by mixing the colours and letting them bleed together.
The result is a wonderful colourful tie dye design without all the mess of the buckets of dye, dyed fingers and spilt messes.
