Wow, your baby is now as big as a blueberry. From the ultrasound scan, you will see your baby’s tiny hands and feet sprouting from the limb outgrowth, but there will be no separation of fingers or toes as of yet. The size of the baby is increasing at a rapid pace. Your baby’s eyelids, mouth and tongue will also start forming. The eyes, heart, lungs, pancreas, and appendix are more developed. During this week, some coils of intestine will leave the body of your baby from the site of future umbilicus or belly button to come in contact with the residing sac. The brain and spinal cord are also growing from the neural tube.
Hooray! Your baby’s liver has taken over the function of blood cell production and will be the factory until it is taken over by the bone marrow, which is after week 13.
Your Signs And Symptoms
During this time, your pregnancy symptoms will persist. You may still be dealing with morning sickness and increased frequency of urination. no thanks to your hormonal changes. Your expanding uterus is probably exerting pressure on your urinary bladder. The 1st trimester is more marked for food aversions, then classic food cravings.
Continue to look out for signs of anemia throughout your pregnancy e.g. paleness, dizziness, rapid heart beat, fatigue, shortness of breaths.
What Tests To Expect
There are no specific tests required other than the standard tests at your doctor’s office if you are visiting this week: blood pressure, urinalysis, weight gain, ultrasound for fetal movement, and swelling of your feet and hands.
