Toddler Week 20

Singing And Music

There are many fun activities to do with your toddler to encourage a love for music. Most toddlers, after all, love listening to their parents as they sing to them. This is your opportunity to let your child hear all your favorite songs from your childhood. It is a great way to share something from your part, creating a platform on which you can tell more stories about your experiences as a child.

In addition to singing your own repertoire of songs, you can purchase CDs and DVDs featuring children’s songs and rhymes and recorded in various styles. Toddlers love watching other toddlers dance and sing, and a short children’s musical number might even give you spare twenty minutes to simply look at your child as he or she gets absorbed into the performance. You may also provide child-friendly musical instruments your child can use to join in the fun of the characters acting on the screen.

And never forget to introduce the classics! The benefits of children listening to Baroque music have a strong research base. Regular exposure to this type of music can help improve a child’s neurological functioning. You can play Vivaldi and Bach compositions for your child when he or she goes to bed. This helps create a calm and receptive atmosphere by regulating brain activity. You can also use classical music during quiet play activities to create an even more relaxed vibe.

Also, you can put on jazz or rock ‘n roll sounds and have a lively dancing session with your toddler. Most toddlers love moving to a beat, although if they don’t quite like it, they may enjoy watching you jive instead! Alternatively you can play one of Johan Strauss’s waltzes, hold your child in your arms, and glide away on the floor. Any of these activities will help your child associate different music genres with good memories you have shared together.
