With so many benefits associated with listening to and interacting with music, make sure you start incorporating it into your daily lives!

Initially, if this is new for you, just put music on in the background, while your child is playing with toys.  The “white noise” in the background will give him an exposure to all sorts of music.  Does he subconsciously beat to the rhythm? Great! Dont think you justlimit yourself to playing  have play kidchildrens CDs…as long as the lyrics are appropriate, expose your little one to all sorts of music such as modern, classical, jazz, country, etc!

Listening and playing music gives your toddler a chance to start understanding the concept of rhythm. Rhythm is being able to dance, clap and sing on the songs count and it is actually a spring board for learning syllables in words! In addition to exposure to music while playing, play some fun songs that require clapping or jumping to the rhythm.  There are many children CDs that you can buy or download that are filled with fun rhythms that your child canto dance to or clap with.

Incorporate some musical instruments and other items with the songs you listen to.  You can buy or make Add fun shakers you can buy or make yourself or make drums and bells available to “enhance” the music.  We went to a discount fabric store and bought tons of inexpensive organza and sheer textiles that we used to dance with the music.  We swayed with the fabric, threw it up with the beats and dressed up with it for costumes!

While driving in the car, we love to turn up the radio or our favorite CDs and jam!  I often think how funny we must look to passing travelers as the kids and I bounce to the music.  If only they could hear how loud and off key we were!  Driving together is a wonderful time to sing songs and learn new concepts through music.  With a wide variety of CDs dedicated tofor learning while singing, there is so much your child will gain during a quick car ride!

Start thinking about all the different ways music can be incorporated into your toddlers days.  The benefits are not only developmental, but also a ton ofalot of fun!
