According to Mariel Padilla, the play date was held at Casa Soriano. Despite their busy schedules, the three celebrity moms were finally able to set a common time for their kids to gather in one playdate, get to know each other, and just have fun. These hands-on mothers surely know the importance of play in their kids’ lives.

The importance of play

Kids play because they are kids. But do you know that play has a crucial role in your child’s development? Yes, it does! Other people may see play as simply a kid’s way of amusing himself or just kids doing something fun. Well, yes play is fun but it is more than that. Play has an important role in early childhood development.

In one scientific publication of The American Academy of Pediatrics (2007), they state that play is important for healthy brain development. When children play, their creativity is put to good use as they simultaneously develop their imagination and agility, as well as their cognitive, physical, and emotional strength.  Play allows for exploration and mastery of the world around them.

Kids are also able to conquer their fears and increase their competencies when they do pretend play or practice adult roles. In child-driven plays, children are able to practice their decision-making skills and discover their special interests. Such play also allows kids to move at their own pace, making them feel independent and confident.

When adults are involved in child play, children have the tendency to just comply with the rules established by their guardian. In such a case, the benefits of play are somehow lessened, particularly because children are not independently practicing creativity and leadership.

You may sometimes see your kids, particularly the toddlers, just running around the house, trying to hop, bending their knees, raising their arms, and the likes. These unstructured plays can exceptionally increase physical activity among children thereby contributing to achieving a healthy body.

As parents, we should not solely focus on their academics. Let us allow our kids to be just kids. Let them run around, let them play with your empty water bottles, let them pretend to be cooks and store cashiers… just let them be. Giving your kids uninterrupted playtime is like giving them time to learn more about themselves, recognize their abilities, and explore their areas of interests, among others. As they say, playing is learning.
