5 Ways to Avoid Mother’s Day Fails

Goal this weekend: Don't piss off mommy 😉

It’s only a few days away until Mother’s Day, and I know that the rush to buy gifts and create the perfect surprise can get overwhelming, fast. I’ve heard several stories from friends and family about celebratory fails. Instead of making Mom happy, they ended up making her feel disappointed, and a bit pissed off. (Yikes!)

We all know that Mother’s Day is a made-up holiday. A perfect holiday engineered by marketers to get us to buy things. But for most of us, it’s that one day of the year that we get to celebrate our mothers, wife, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, and other mother-figures we have in our life.

Here are five ways to help you steer away from celebratory fails.

Do Something

This is the most obvious thing to do and yet some of us tend to fail to do this. Buying a simple flower arrangement and a cute card goes a long way than not really doing anything at all.

Some mothers would tell you that they don’t want anything because they don’t want to sound selfish or self-absorbed, but the reality is they do want something.

Don’t Skimp On It

If you’re reading this now, you still have a couple of days to make great things happen so don’t skimp on it. Set an appropriate time, effort, and budget for Mother’s Day because they deserve it.

If you’re cooking something for them, do a test run of your recipe first. If you’re making reservations, do them way ahead of time. If you’re really tight on budget, put some work into it and exert time and effort on your gift. Mother’s day is the perfect holiday to spoil Mom and shower her with love.

Make It A Celebration

Treat the whole day as a special day for the entire family. Set the alarm for yourself, so you don’t forget. Get everyone in the family involved in the preparations. Make Mom feel that this day was specially made to celebrate her. Think about how you wish to be treated on your special day, and that’s what you do.

Give Her A Time For Herself

I know I’ve just said to make the day a celebration, but make room for the day to give Mom some time to herself. Don’t make a full-day schedule of things to do because more often than not, these Moms just like to get some alone time. Most Moms I know are already used to the overwhelming feeling of sticking to a schedule of activities and to-do’s, don’t make this day one of them.

Ask Her

If you’re still clueless about what to do or what to give her on Mother’s Day, there’s nothing wrong about asking her. Some moms like the surprises and will feel bad and annoyed with you asking, but most moms are more than willing to help you find the right gift for them. You know your wife better if she likes surprises find a way to ask her without being annoying, but if she’s open to the idea of turning it into a conversation, do that.

I know the sinking feeling of trying to read your wife’s mind just to find out what they really want or that uneasy feeling of thinking if they’ll like the gift. Don’t torture yourself, and don’t risk disappointing her, just ask.
