Dressing the Bump: 5 Pregnancy Wardrobe Essentials

0

Whether you love it or you hate it, your pregnancy bump is here to stay…at least for the next 9 months of your life. And while it may take some time to get used to waddling around with a watermelon for a belly, the reality is that you are carrying around a baby–YOUR BABY, and that you might as well make the most of this precious time of preparation for one of the biggest changes in your life.

So whether you feel beautiful and glowing or heavy and impatient to give birth, there are ways you can help yourself feel more confident during this amazing season of motherhood. There’s nothing quite like retail therapy to get a girl out of her rut. 😉

Here are 5 pregnancy wardrobe essentials to get you started.

1. Maternity pants. Once your belly begins to grow, the first item in your closet you will find to no longer fit you is your favorite pair of jeans. Luckily for us, a fashion genius invented the maternity pants not long ago, which means we can continue wearing our skinny jeans long into the last few weeks of our pregnancy.

2. Leggings. For more casual and relaxed days, leggings are a great option for expecting mamas…especially those who are dedicated to exercise. Because the band is elastic, leggings can usually grow with you during your pregnancy for as long as you are comfortable wearing them below your bump.

3. Form Fitting Dresses. The more fashionable choice for modern mamas, form fitting dresses are great for showing off your baby bump. This is definitely taking “girls with curves” to the next level!

4. Loose Fitting Dresses. One the days when you feel too hot, too tired, and well…too heavy to pull on a tight dress, loose fitting dresses will be your best friend.

5. Long tops. Avoid embarrassing moments by buying tops that reach below your crotch/bottom while you are still your normal size. As your bellow grows, this will provide you with the right amount of coverage for your belly….because while your baby may be ready to play peekaboo with the people around you, we’re pretty sure you won’t appreciate that.

6. Pencil Skirts. Pencil skirts made from stretchable fabric are chic wardrobe pieces great for wearing to work and play.

Beyond the suggestions given above, feel free to continue wearing your heels (wedges are a good alternative, if you no longer feel like you are able to balance), to continue following trends, and to continue accessorizing in the best ways you know how while you are pregnant.

It is 2017. To be pregnant has never been more stylish, and celebrating that baby bump through what we wear will not only make you look great, but is also a surefire way to make you feel great too. Because remember, when mama is happy…every body is happy! 😉
