Stress is a normal part of life. Everybody experiences it, and no person is exempt from the occasional panic attack when everything seems to be going wrong OR nothing seems to be getting done.
As moms, things are slightly more complicated. When we become stressed, our behavior not only affects ourselves, but our children, spouse, and entire household as well. And this is precisely way we need to know how to handle it when those moments do come. Here are some tips from MomCenter on how to deal with #MomProblems.
1. Breathe in and out. If you’re feeling particularly frazzled, taking a few moments in silence to regulate your breathing might bring down your stress levels. Instead of jumping from one task, one appointment to another, take a moment to close your eyes, breathe in and out, and give yourself some pep talk to get through the rest of the day.
2. Make a list. If your plans were thrown off and you suddenly find yourself with an overwhelming number of things to do, take a moment to write your thoughts down. Your list can consist of items you cannot forget, must do, or need to make a decision about. Making a list will help you to regain your sense of control.
3. Be alone. When a woman becomes a mother, her body and time are no longer her own. You surely understand this, as children are constantly asking for attention and affection. But if you’re feeling particularly stressed, maybe now isn’t the best time to be around your kids. If you can, allow them to do something that will keep them busy and sneak into a room (or closet) to regain your composure and sanity. A few blissful moments of alone time will make a huge difference in your day.
4. Hang out with your girlfriends. There’s nothing quite like some girl time to make you forget about your #momproblems for a while. Often, all a woman needs is a little space, a little wine, and a lot of laughter to remember that whatever is stressing her out isn’t as bad as she thinks.
5. Exercise. No matter how many times it has been proven, people are stubborn and refuse to accept that the fact that we are happier and better balanced when we exercise. Try to see it as a prevention more than a cure for stress. Your family will thank you for it!
And lastly, perhaps the best way to deal with your #momproblems is to try to see things from a big picture point of view. Will what is happening really matter, tomorrow, in a week, or in the next 5 years? Probably not. This point of view will help us to focus on what matters, instead of allowing ourselves to become extremely stressed about what what can probably be fixed. More power to you moms!
