Taking care of a growing baby is quite a challenge. Apart from the sleepless nights there are hundreds of baby products out there. There’s a huge market for baby care, so it’s no wonder that there are many different brands for every need. Preparation and timing is important in feeding a baby.

Feeding is one of the most important aspects of taking care of a baby. Mothers should know the proper time in feeding them semi solid or solid foods. Mothers should watch out for signs when it’s time for their babies to move on from milk. Babies grow at different rates. Mothers should consider their baby’s age, appetite and how fast they grow up in determining their readiness. In the first few months, a baby only needs breast milk or iron fortified formulas. There are many baby products out there that mothers can choose from. Semi solid foods are not introduced until four to six months. During this time, babies have neuro-muscular development which is needed to enable them to eat foods. A baby should be able to close his mouth over the spoon, sit with a support, control their head and neck, and swallow and digest before getting introduced to semi solid or solid foods.

Semi solid foods:

Mothers should begin with foods that have single ingredients. They should allow five days between feeding their baby new foods. Do not overfeed. They shouldn’t force their baby to finish the food to avoid poor eating habits. Introduce juices when the baby learns to drink from a cup. Don’t use a bottle or other feeding device.

Solid foods:

Serve them after giving breast milk or formula. New foods should be offered when the baby is in a good mood. Put a small amount on her tongue with a teaspoon or baby spoon. Give her time to swallow and get used to it. Hold the infant on your lap or put her in a feeding chair. Always use a clean dish. Don’t forget to make meal times enjoyable for your baby. Plain and strained foods are ideal. Fruit desserts should be avoided.

Baby care doesn’t just make the infant healthy but also creates a bond with their parents. Knowing how to feed your baby properly will ensure that they will grow healthy. A balanced diet is important for a growing child. It’s always better to start when they are young, especially with good eating habits.
