Being a mom takes up a lot of your time, and your life. If you are juggling multiple roles, this balancing act gets even trickier as the most natural thing would be to spend all of your free time with your children.
“What friends?” you might ask yourself, as you move deeper and deeper into the wells of motherhood, forgetting the girlfriends who were with you long before you ever became wife or mom. They were the ones whose shoulder you cried on during your first break up, the one you would spend hours on the phone with after being together all day at school, the ones you chose as your bridesmaids, and the ones who threw you your very first baby shower. Remember them?
While motherhood no longer allows you to go out at night or spend as much time with your girlfriends as you used to, there are ways you can show them that even if you’ve gotten a little bit busier (even if this is quite the understatement) than when you were single.
1. Use technology to be a better friend. No, those “likes” on their posts do not count. Nor does a “happy birthday” greeting on their wall make the cut. Go out of your way to give your bff a call over your lunch break or while your baby is asleep. Pressed for time? Send a short but sweet audionote that will let her know that you care. I’m sure she will also appreciate the quick update on your life.
2. Send her a small gift, with a sweet written note. It doesn’t need to be pricey, it just needs to be meaningful. Whether it is her favorite snack, or that new lipstick she has been eyeing, send her your love using one of the many express courier services available. It will be such a heartwarming surprise for her to receiving something she loves from her busy mama friend.
3. Schedule her in. Be intentional about carving time out of your friends. If you know that you’re weeks tend to be full of appointments, meetings, and activities, set aside a few hours of your best day for much needed quality time for your girlfriend. We’re sure she’ll appreciate the time you took to be with her in the middle of your crazy schedule. And besides, we know you could use the break too. 😉
